Members of the May Day Procession advancing. Two girls holding garlands of flowers lead, followed by students mounted on dark horses, and others follow. Imprinted on the front of the photograph is the photographer's mark "PEIRCE and JONES - PHILA.? Back of photograph inscribed "May Day - Big -1900 Procession." May Day celebrates spring and honors parting seniors featuring parades, theater, and maypole dancing. Big May Day occurs once every four years and is marked by even more extravagant celebrations.
