Description
Diary kept by Elsie Winchester Coolidge (Radcliffe College, Class of 1895) during the year 1893. The diary includes short entries describing her social life, club activities--she was a member of the Idler, French, English, Musical, and Classical clubs, and her course work. There are descriptions of college officials, college events, and professors, and some references to her personal life and emotional disappointments. Specifically, she mentions attending church, singing lessons, teas, plays, lectures, and events such as commencement and the Harvard Yale football game. The diary includes Coolidge’s remarks about current events, including notable deaths (Lucy Stone Blackwell and Edwin Booth) and President Grover Cleveland’s inauguration. She also mentions the chartering of Radcliffe College and the renaming of the “Harvard Annex” to Radcliffe College.
