Description
Eleanor Stabler Brooks was a member of the Radcliffe College Class of 1914. Her scrapbook contains calling cards, handwritten tickets and invitations, dance cards, photographs, and memorabilia documenting her four years at Radcliffe College. It also contains course schedules, annotated layouts of Bertram Hall (where Brooks lived), and class handbooks. In addition, there are programs from theater performances at Harvard and Radcliffe and in the Boston area, such as the Harvard Dramatic Club and the Radcliffe Choral Society. Brooks annotated many of the items in the scrapbook with explanatory notes. During her freshman and sophomore years, Brooks participated in athletic contests at Radcliffe; page 231 of her scrapbook contains several newspaper clippings which proclaim her “Radcliffe’s strongest girl” for her performance in a meet. Brooks was also a member of the Idler Club, and the scrapbook contains invitations and programs from Idler events. The scrapbook also documents the traditional commencement events at Radcliffe and Harvard; it contains calling card with goodbye poems, clippings, and programs from Class Day and Commencement. The scrapbook also contains wedding announcements from her marriage to Charles Franklin Brooks on June 4, 1914.
