Description
This diary dates from 1922 April 12 to 1924 August 24 and is written by Dorothy Burr Thompson. It chronicles part of the second semester of her junior year at Bryn Mawr College, her entire senior year, and her time at the American School in Athens on the European Fellowship. She uses several abbreviations throughout the diary, with the most common being "v" for "the," "sho" for "should," and "tho" for "though." This diary largely chronicles her social activities, such as having tea with her professors and friends, as well as her feelings towards her academics, including her pride at receiving Summa Cum Laude (see entry 1923 February 7), as well as her worry about passing her exams. She never describes her professional archaeological work with any specificity after she leaves for Europe, she keeps a separate diary alongside this one, and that describes her archaeological work in more detail. There are two travel diaries that overlap in time with this one, Diary no. 16 (1923 July 26-November 24) and Diary no. 17 (1923 November 25-1924 November 15). Both of these are transcribed alongside Diary no. 15.
